One of the great takeaways from my recent Sacred Sons experience is the WhatsApp group that we use to keep checking in.
One of the brothers recently mentioned how grateful he was to have a space to re-connect. He was talking about how the memory of a passing in his family was bringing up some old emotions and he was surprised at how strong they were.
He mentioned that had it not been for the group, he would have sat with these thoughts in his head. He reminded us all that ‘a closed mouth does not get fed’, which I found helpful.
It’s this idea of asking for help when you need it.
Ask For Help
While I can’t speak for both genders, I will tell you that in my experience, I’ve found that men suck at this.
It doesn’t have to be that way anymore. Regardless of your age (or gender) make it a point to find someone to connect with on a regular basis.
Yes, this takes time and effort. I haven’t been the best at maintaining my long-term relationships, and it’s shown over the years.
That doesn’t mean I can’t change my ways. It’s something I’m going to be more intentional about.
Maintaining Ongoing Connections
This experience reminded me of the importance of continuing conversations with people that resonate with your message.
I was pleasantly surprised to open my email on Tuesday to this note from my friend Bianca, who I connected with more than 2 years ago!
Bianca and I connected via a mutual friend and over the years, we’ve had several high-vibe conversations about business, spirituality and podcasting.
We’ve discussed a few ideas during our time together, but the thing I’ve enjoyed the most is her enthusiasm and energy!
Suffice it to say, I was really looking forward to connecting again. We ended up having a great hour long chat and there’s a good chance you’ll be hearing more about her amazing podcast idea soon! 😉
As I think about all the similar conversations I’ve had over the years, the common thread is the passion I have of helping people find their voice. It’s in these moments where I really feel like I’m “in flow.”
Some of these conversations have podcasting as the natural connecting point, but over time, as we deepen our friendship, I can begin to see them get excited about their mission.
All this to say that with each passing day, I am learning to maintain connections with people that inspire me. That may mean 1 or 2 conversations over the course of a year, or following inspiring friends on social, or picking up the phone and having a brief catch-up chat.
Like my friend Jason likes to say, follow the nudges! (And yes, there’s a podcast idea brewing around this topic as well)
We Are The Ones
Why is this all so important?
I feel like now, more than ever, it’s incumbent upon you to share your journey. Maybe it’s with a close friend, or like me, via these weekly letters.
Either way, don’t stop.
For all you Marvel fans, this time feels like that scene in the Avengers finale where they’re all being called to “Assemble”!
Except instead of superheroes, it’s all the people like you and I, who are finding their voice (regardless of age) and realizing that they have a story to tell.
You don’t have to wait for guidance from some ‘guru’ or ‘thought leader’. Those days are over.
Here’s the long-forgotten and often-misunderstood truth:
You have a medicine.
It’s your message.
Learning How To Slow Down
I thought I’d take a few moments this week to share a personal update.
We recently moved to a new location 30 minutes outside the Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul, for those readers outside of the US).
I am beginning to appreciate once again the ability to sit on the deck with a cup of coffee in the morning.
I thought I would be missing the city vibe, but I’ve found that what I was really missing was the ability to appreciate slowing down.
Since moving in, we’ve shared our yard with a few deer, turkeys, rabbits, so many birds, a rascaly raccoon and even a garter snake.
As far as this weekend, I’m looking forward to a fun evening of comedy with my partner. We’re taking in the Nate Bargatze show, a favorite comic of ours
For the longest time, I’ve felt like life needs to always be a struggle. I’m slowly beginning to appreciate all the good things in my life, and learning how to sit and appreciate them. It’s making me more grateful, day by day.
That’s my convoluted message this week to you this week.
Slow down, connect with those people in your life that inspire you, take time to listen to your inner guidance, and begin sharing your medicine. It’s needed now more than ever.
🙏 with gratitude,
Harry

😯 Wow, episode 100! Sometimes we move so fast that we don’t take the time to celebrate the small wins. So I want to pause, reflect and celebrate everything that it’s taken to get to this point. The show has wildly exceeded my expectations and I’m excited for what’s to come. I’ve got 2 upcoming conferences this year, Indoor AgTech NYC at the end of June and Vertifarm in Messe Dortmund, Germany in September.
