How I Use One Platform to Fuel My Content Across Six Channels (and Counting)

(9m read) A Life Worth Living | Feb 24, 2023

Every Saturday I share a story about my life in a way that you can hopefully relate to. I believe we are all here to share our journey, both the highs and the lows, as this is how we collectively raise the consciousness of the planet. If anything resonates with you, please share! πŸ™ (9 minute read)

Today marks the 21st straight week of publishing A Life Worth Living.

I wish I could say that I'm now "in the flow", but I've come to accept that that may never happen.

I simply show up and start typing and see where the muse takes me.

I'm reminded of a fantastic book The War of Art by Steven Pressfield. It's an inspiring and motivational guide for anyone looking to overcome the mental and emotional blocks that prevent them from getting shit done.

The book explores the concept of β€œresistance,” which Pressfield defines as the internal enemy that prevents individuals from achieving success and fulfillment. He suggests that the only way to overcome this resistance is to push through it and to persevere in spite of it.

Pressfield offers a variety of strategies for overcoming resistance and achieving one’s goals, including:

  • Developing a work ethic

  • Embracing fear

  • Ignoring the opinions of others

  • Maintaining focus on long-term goals

He also emphasizes the importance of taking action and understanding that success is not always a straight path. Sound familiar?

I'm reminded of that as I write today.

Don't Work Harder Than You Need To

I'm a big fan of repurposing content whenever possible and I've been looking at all the ways I can re-share the content from these letters. I thought it might be helpful to share my workflow for writing and posting.

I originally started this personal journey on Substack and when I moved to beehiiv, the idea was to move the subscribers over from Substack, but a funny thing happened.

Readers of Substack newsletters (my partner included) like the experience of reading the posts in the Substack app. So, I actually kept that small set of subscribers there and now publish on both platforms. The Substack readers actually have a higher open rate!

Once the post is written and scheduled on both platforms, if I remember to do so, I post a preview of the content on Twitter, which is a trick I picked up from Justin Welsh.

It helps to remind my audience there that I have a weekly newsletter. On the day of publishing, I'll post another note on Twitter and LinkedIn.

The newsletter is also posted on my personal blog, harryduran.com, which is the ultimate SEO-friendly destination for this content.

The beauty of this method is that once you have a rhythm in place, you can start to think off all the places you can re-purpose this same content.

Turn Your Words Into Video

A tip I picked up from Dan Koe is to read the letters on camera and post them to my YouTube channel. Same content, different format.

Here's a peek at my first letter turned video. And yes, I'm doing my best to not look awkward reading the copy πŸ™ˆ .

I recently recorded another batch of these and once edited, I'll begin to post them there.

Who Else is Reading Newsletters?

I also noticed that LinkedIn supports newsletters, so I've created one there (same title) and have begun posting my letters there as well, starting with the first one. What's wild is that LinkedIn notifies your connections when you start one, and as of this writing I'm at 831 subscribers!

As creators we sometimes worry that we might be inundating our followers with the same repetitive content but I'm constantly reminded that not everyone is as omni-present as I am, and they generally have self-selected their social channel of choice.

It's been re-affirming to see comments on those first few posts from LinkedIn connections and old friends who have never come across the letter in this format.

It's starts to become a lot to track, so I created a spreadsheet (of course I did) to track each newsletter and where it's being repurposed.

From the looks of things, I'll have plenty of content to share without feeling that overwhelming sense of dread as a content creator when you begin.

You Can Do This Too

It's helpful to know that as long as I stay consistent with this weekly cadence, the content for the rest of my channels will take care of itself. It will simply be a reformatted, summarized version, custom fit for that platform. Twitter threads, Medium posts, etc.

All of if sourced from this letter.

I'd be lying if I said there wasn't a small part of me that worries there will come a day where I just run out of things to write about. But no use in putting time and energy in something that hasn't happened yet.

I hope this inspires you to find the one platform where you can focus your time and effort and redirect all your energy to sharing inspiring stories with your audience.

πŸ™ with gratitude,

Harry
