Did you wake up & immediately grab your phone?
I did.
It took me a few seconds of staring at it, before I picked it up, but more or less the first thing I did.
I recently came across a thought-provoking article titled "The Digital Detox: Why It's Essential for Creativity", and it's a must-read for digital creatives, like me.
The post delves into the significance of disconnecting from our digital devices and how it can immensely benefit our creativity and productivity.
In this digital age, it's very easy to get lost in the constant barrage of notifications, emails, and social media updates.
I have found myself many times, getting lost in minutes of endless scrolling.
What I appreciate about the post is that it highlights the importance of taking regular breaks from screens to recharge our creative juices. These are 3 important takeaways that you can implement immediately:
Schedule Screen-Free Time
Incorporate intentional breaks from screens into your daily routine. Whether it's a short walk, a 15-minute meditation, or a longer digital detox weekend, setting aside time away from screens can help refresh your mind and stimulate creativity.
Prioritize Mindful Consumption
Pay attention to what you consume online. Curate your digital environment to include content that inspires and educates. Limit mindless scrolling and focus on quality information and entertainment that aligns with the vision you see for your life.
Engage in Analog Activities
Rediscover the benefits of analog activities like reading physical books, journaling with pen and paper, or engaging in hobbies that don't involve screens. These activities can spark new ideas and perspectives for your content.
Given you’re reading this on a digital device, this is a timely post for you.
Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate everything that technology has allowed in my life and I wouldn’t have a business without it.
But I know that this letter is a reminder to myself as well.
I want to feel like I have a healthy balance of analog and digital. I actually did a bit of yard work this morning, prior to getting this week’s letter out, and it felt great to move my body and spend time outside. I will be doing more of that for sure.
I know that implementing even one of these takeaways will slowly help you redefine your relationship with digital distractions, so it never becomes all-consuming.
Which one will you try this week?
with gratitude,
🙏 Harry
