Who are your people?

Just wrapped up a week with my fellow podcasters at Podcast Movement in Denver.

I spoke on 2 panels and got to meet some past Podcast Junkies guests in person, which always makes my heart smile. (what up Dustin!)

One thing I noticed that was different this year, was the decision my partner and I made to focus on deeper connections.

There’s a small cadre of fellow podcasters and entrepreneurs that we hang with at these conferences and I was grateful for the opportunity to get to know them better.

In the past I would spend more time hopping around from conversation to conversation.

And while I met a lot of ‘friends’ that way, it’s hard to really get to know someone if you’re not putting in the effort to go deep.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful for all those connections made over the years, as some of those folks ended up on my podcast and some have remained friends to this day.

Looking back at the past week, I’m grateful to my partner for reminding me of the importance every now and then of choosing ‘narrow and deep’ as opposed to ‘wide and shallow’.

I believe there’s a time and place for both.

I learned some new things about my friends this week. And as a result of those intimate conversations, I feel like I know them better.

And that’s cool.

As you think about your upcoming interactions with friends, take a moment to make an intention to go deeper.

You won’t be sorry.
